The Artists of Finger Cakes
We got a chance to work with some amazing talent on Finger Cakes: Volume One. Here’s a brief overview of all the great artists who contributed to our new comics anthology.
Mark Rogers is a self-taught artist from Portland, Oregon. Stylistically his work has been described as a mash-up of folk art, medieval painting, and fairy tale illustration. Obsessed with fantasy, and tales of the supernatural, Rogers creates narrative-driven paintings populated by fictional characters that inhabit his spooky and sometimes humorous oil paintings.
Chason Matthams' focus is on capturing the ephemeral experience of consciousness and pointing to its fragmentary nature. While at first glance his paintings seem to be contemplative experiments in mimesis, prolonged looking reveals threatening undertones. Matthams’ employs specific combinations of colors, angles of perspective, and exhaustive detail to anthropomorphize each of his subjects, rendering them just barely sinister.
Davor Gromilovic is a visual artist currently residing in Sombor, Serbia (born in Yugoslavia, 1985). His work is narrative and often inspired by fantastic motives of fairy tales, folk-art, pop surrealism, sci-fi, and even by north renaissance masters of painting, as well as by his personal experiences and inner world.
